About Morgan Mau Rakau

Mau Rakau - Literally means to grasp a weapon. Starting with an ordinary rakau (stick) you will learn the basic Rapa (drills and sequences) which will eventually lead you to begin using the fabled Taiaha (Long handled club/sword) and Patu (Short hand held club).

Eventually you will gain enough skills and confidence with what you've been learning that you'll be wanting to teach anyone who'll listen to you. So what are you doing still reading this??? But who is Rue-jade Morgan and how can he help you? you may be asking yourself right about now, I know I would be.

Rue-jade Morgan is of Kai Tahu/Kati Mamoe/Waitaha/Moriori descent and has taught Whakapakari Tinana me Kai Totika (Physical Activties and Nutrition) throughout Kura (schools) in Otautahi (Christchurch) and to local bodies within the wider community. Jade, as he prefers to be called has been chosen to represent his Iwi (Tribe - Kai Tahu) as well as his Hapuu (Sub-tribe - Kati Wheke) to deliver numerous Wero (Challenges) to all manners of dignitaries (Hon.P.M John Key) for all manners of ocassions. Jade was also selected to help with the openings of both newly carved meeting houses (Whare Tipuna) "Te Tauraka Waka a Maui" Marae of Mahitahi (Bruce Bay) over the range in South-Westland and more recently "Te Wheke" at Rapaki Marae over the hill between Lytellton & Governors Bay.

In April 2010 with the aid of Korey Gibson (owner/operator of Quest Health Clubs NZ/Snap fitness NZ) Jade established the first Mau Rakau Group Fittness classes being delivered from a Gym/Health Club in New Zealand (in fact it was a world first) at Quest Health Clubs NZ, in the Ferrymead suburb of Christchurch City. This led to TVNZ's Good Morning Show contacting the gym to offer Jade a filmed three segments and one live to camera piece in the physical activity segment of the show which weekly theme was the celebration of Maori language week. The benefits for the gym was national advertising, and the benefits for Jade was the free national exposure of what he has on offer to the community.. needless to say the offer was readily accepted. Three months later Jade was invited back up to Avalon studios, Wellington, to deliver some more Mau Rakau to the nation. This time Jade went up on behalf of He Waka Tapu delivering four segments, this time each one live. Check out: Mau Rakau Promo 2010 on YouTube and you will see SOME of the things you can learn from the Morgan Mau Rakau system of Non Contact & Combative styles of Mau Rakau, or follow either of these links to my face book pages:

February 2011. Unfortunately due to a massive and deadly earthquake which threw Canterbury and its citizens into an unbefore seen crises, Jade and his family (who were in the Christchurch Hospital dealing with a health crises at the time that the quake struck) decided to move away for a short time from the stress of "Quake-ville" and move to the tranquillic beauty of the South Island Westcoasts Buller Region. Jade secured classes at Westport nth, Waimangaroa and Granity Primary Schools as well as after school and community classes within the Buller region.

Now living in Dunedin, Jade endeavours to bring his unique style of healthy living and physical activity messages through the implementation of Mau Rakau to the Dunedin community and general southern region.
