"Matua Jade, our tutor, is a very positive role model for our students. He upholds the values of our school and reinforces the message of healthy eating and exercising in clear, informative and fun ways!" Trish Noble & Amanda Thornbury,Harewood School, Christchurch. ![]() "Jade always treated every student with respect, no matter who they were. All the students loved the sessions he took & were always eager to be part of his classes. An added benefit of the sessions for our students was to experience & learn Te Reo Maori in an authentic context." Ruth Stewart, Deputy Principal, Woolston School, Christchurch. Excerpt from letter written to He Waka Tapu: "Tuesday morning at Christchurch East School was certainly one to remember - a morning to put a ring around! We were having Kevin Senio & Mose Tuialii, rugby players of note with the victorious Crusaders team, speak to the children at the Duffy Books in Homes role model assembly. Prior to this Mr Nick Jorgensen, Year 8 teacher, took Kevin & Mose to meet Jade and to share in the atmosphere & culture of the Mau Rakau session for a short time. Both Kevin & Mose could not say enough about what they had seen & they were extremely impressed with the manner in which Jade was working with the students - his expertise & skills in bringing out the very best in each individual, the high expectations set, the obvious passion with which he worked to support those individual needs. Mose & Kevin spoke at length about the self confidence, determination, commitment & pride that they saw in the students." Marg Robson Principal (Retired) Christchurch East School, Christchurch. Mau Rakau Group fitness classes at Quest Health Club, NZ, Ferrymead Christchurch. This provided Jade the opportunity to appear on the "Good Morning" breakfast show. "The students chosen to take part certainly benefited from spending time each week with Jade who was an outstanding role model for our students. Jade is an excellent communicator and a charismatic person who is held in high esteem within our school community. He was able to engage our students and encourage them to step up and accept challenges be they big or small. The advantages to our students were, that they grew in confidence, co-ordination, self discipline and benefited from the cultural connection to things Maori." Brian Price, Principal, Breens Intermediate, Christchurch. ![]() "Matua Jade is enthusiastic and the tamariki think he is the "BOMB". We need to clone him so every school can have their very own Matua Jade." Jasmine Stirling, Manning Intermediate, Christchurch. Excerpt from personal email from He Waka Tapu management to Jade: "As you know i've received a letter from Marg Robson, Principal of CES, which gave you a glowing evaluation of your wonderful efforts with the tamariki at her school. Not only this, but she also passed on the congratulations & special thanks from no less than Crusader rugby players & ex All Blacks, Mose Tuialii & Kevin Senio, who witnessed you in action. Your efforts have also caused Marg to reflect that for her it is a "privilege" to be in a partnership with He Waka Tapu & that she values the opportunity to work with you. This is an outstanding personal endorsement of your efforts. I have placed a copy of the letter on your personnel file & have sent copies to Daryl & Winiata. This is the He Waka Tapu brand, on behalf of Management Jade, well done." Ra Wharehinga, Operations Manager (former), He Waka Tapu Health and Social Services, Christchurch. "In my capacity as Deputy Principal of Oaklands School it has been my very great privilege to witness the Mau Rakau Programme at close quarters. Content has included Mau Rakau / stick grasping (sic), Karakia, proverbs & stories. Key aims have involved promoting healthy living through confidence, fitness, promotion of effort, team work & well being. This programme has been great to witness. Our group has involved a challenging group of Year 7 & 8 boys. It would be fair to say that the group has been won-over from the start. We hope to have this programme back in the future. If we manage to do so we will be lucky. I am pleased to thoroughly recommend this Mau Rakau programme." Richard Wethey, Deputy Principal, Oaklands Primary School, Christchurch. "The ability to focus on the needs of my classroom, i.e teamwork and sportsmanship, and have these areas specifically targeted. A special greeting to Matua Jade for his support and help with my class as these tamariki aren't the easiest class to have worked with." Whaea Robyn, Aorangi Primary School, Christchurch. |
